Hot Spiced Cider

8 cups of apple cider or apple juice
1/4 to 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
6 inches stick of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of whole allspice
1 teaspoon of whole cloves
8 thin orange wedges or slices, optional
8 whole cloves, optional

In a large saucepan combine the apple cider or juice and brown sugar. For spice bag, place cinnamon, allspice, and the 1 teaspoon of whole cloves in a double thickness of cheesecloth. Bring up corners of cheesecloth and tie with string. Add spice bag to cider mixture. Bring to boiling, reduce the heat. Cover and simmer at least 10 minutes. Meanwhile, stud orange wedges or slices with cloves, if desired. remove and discard spice bag. serve cider in mugs with studded orange wedges or slices, if desired. Makes eight 8 ounce servings

Hot Spiced Cider 2

4 cinnamon sticks, broken into pieces
2 nutmegs, broken
1 teaspoon of whole cloves
1 teaspoon of allspice (whole)
3 quarts of  cider

Wrap first 4 ingredients in cheesecloth and tie in a bundle. Simmer in Crock-pot with 3 quarts of cider with spices 6-8 hours. 

Hot Spiced Cider 3

1 quart of apple cider or apple juice
1 cinnamon stick cracked in half
10 whole cloves
4 whole allspice
1 lemon sliced
1 orange sliced
(Additional orange slices and cinnamon sticks for garnish if desired)

Pour cider into a 2 quart saucepan. Put cinnamon stick pieces, cloves and allspice together in a piece of clean cheesecloth and tie together. Add spice bag and fruit slices to cider and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes. Reduce heat. Serve hot with cinnamon stick and/or lemon slice. 

Spiced Hot Cider 4

1 gallon of cider
2 teaspoon of  whole allspice
2 teaspoon of whole cloves
2 sticks of cinnamon
2/3 cup of sugar

Combine ingredients in large saucepan. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 20 minutes. Strain. May be kept warm or reheated.
