Hot Mulled Port

3 cups of clear apple juice or cider
1/3 cup of light corn syrup
3 cinnamon sticks
6 whole allspice
1 small orange, thinly sliced
Whole cloves
1 bottle (4/5 qt.) Cream Port
3/4 cup of brandy
Cinnamon stick stirrers, optional



In a large saucepan combine apple juice, corn syrup, 3 cinnamon sticks and allspice. heat to boiling, stirring. Reduce heat and simmer covered for 5 minutes.
Stud orange slices with cloves. Add orange slices, port, brandy to apple juice mixture and heat to simmering.
Serve hot in heat proof glasses or mugs with cinnamon sticks for stirrers, if desired. Makes 1 3/4 quarts
