2 cups of self rising flour 1 tablespoon of sugar 1/3 cup of shortening 1 cup of buttermilk 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda 3/4 pound of sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled 1 cup (4 ounces) of shredded Cheddar cheese
Combine the flour and sugar, cut in shortening with pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Set aside. Combine the buttermilk and soda, stirring until soda dissolves. Add buttermilk mixture, bacon, and cheese to flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead lightly 4 or 5 times. Roll dough to 1/2 " thickness, cut with a 2" biscuit cutter. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 425ºF. for 10 - 12 minutes. Yield about 1 1/2 dozen
