Cherry Pecan Bread

1 stick of margarine
3/4 cup of sugar
2 eggs
2 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of buttermilk
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 cup of chopped pecans
one 10 ounce jar of maraschino cherries

 

Drain and chop cherries. Set aside. Cream sugar and margarine. Add eggs one at a time and beat well. Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Stir in vanilla, nuts and cherries. Pour into a greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350ºF.  for 55 to 60 minutes.
