French Sourdough Bread 2

1 1/2 cup of warm water
1 package of yeast
1 cup of  starter
4 cups of flour
2 teaspoons of sugar
2 teaspoons of salt
1/2 teaspoon of soda
1 or 2 cups of flour (for kneading)




Pour water, sugar, starter, and yeast into bowl and mix. Add flour, salt, and soda; beat well, then knead in flour to stiffen until dough is satiny. Let rise until double; knead again and form into two loaves (oblong). Let rise until double. before baking, make diagonal slashes on loaves and brush with water. Put shallow pan with water in bottom of oven. Bake at 400ºF. until brown (about 45 minutes).
