Quick Dinner Buns

3/4 cup of warm water
1 pkg. of dry yeast
1/4 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1 egg
2 1/2 cups of sifted flour
1/4 cup of soft shortening




Dissolve yeast in warm water in mixing bowl. Add sugar, slat and about half the flour. Beat thoroughly for 2 minutes. Add egg and shortening. Then gradually beat in remaining flour until smooth. Let rise in bowl 40 to 50 minutes in a warm place (85º). Stir down batter and drop into greased muffin tins. Let rise 30 minutes or until double in bulk. Preheat oven to 425ºF. Bake 10 minutes. Makes 12 buns
