Smothered Pork Chops


 

Smothered Pork Chops

4 loin pork chops, 1 inch thick
1 teaspoon of salt
1 tart apple, cored
2 tablespoons of brown sugar
1 package of onion gravy mix
1 cup of water
1 1/2 teaspoons of vinegar
2 tablespoons of raisins




Season chops with salt. Brown on both sides in a hot skillet. Remove chops from skillet and arrange in a shallow 8"x16" casserole. Slice apple into 1/2 inch rings. Place apple rings on top of chops. Sprinkle with sugar. Blend gravy mix into the fat in the skillet. Gradually stir in water. Cook and stir over moderate heat until the mixture comes to a boil. Add vinegar and raisins. Pour gravy over the chops. Cover casserole and bake in 375ºF. oven for 45 minutes or until the chops are tender. Serves 4
