4 large green tomatoes, sliced salt and pepper to taste 3/4 cup of Cheddar cheese, grated 1 tablespoon of butter
Preheat oven to 400ºF. Butter casserole dish. Lay 1/3 of tomato slices on bottom. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and 1/4 cup of cheese. Repeat with remaining slices. top with 1/2 cup of cheese and dot with butter. Bake covered 40 - 60 minutes. Brown under broiler if desired.
