2 cups of unsifted all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons of baking soda 1 teaspoons of cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon of allspice 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon of cloves 1/4 teaspoon of salt 2 eggs or 2 egg substitutes 1 cup of light brown sugar, packed 1/2 cup of margarine, melted 2 cups of hot applesauce 1 cup of dates, chopped 3/4 cup of walnuts, chopped Cream cheese frosting (optional)
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Spray a 9 x 9 x 2 inch pan with Pam. Flour pan lightly. Mix flour, soda, spices and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, brown sugar, melted margarine and 1 cup of applesauce. Beat at low speed of mixer until well blended. At medium speed 2 more minutes. Add remaining applesauce, nuts, and dates. Beat 1 minute. Pour into pan. Bake 60 to 65 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes. Frost with cream cheese frosting or decorate with powdered sugar.
