Buttermilk Pound Cake

3 cups of sugar
1 cup of butter flavored Crisco
5 large or 6 small eggs
1/4 teaspoon soda in 1 c. buttermilk
3 cups of plain flour (White Lily)
1 tablespoon of  vanilla

Cream the sugar and Crisco well. Add eggs, one at a time and beat well after each one. Add soda and buttermilk mixture alternately with the flour and vanilla. Beat well and bake at 325ºF. for 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Buttermilk Pound Cake

1/2 cup of Crisco
1/2 cup of butter
2 cups of sugar
3 cups of plain flour
2 eggs
1 cup of  buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon of lemon extract
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
Powdered sugar and water (for icing, if desired)

Cream shortening and butter well. Add sugar to mixture and cream together. Add eggs, one at a time. Add extracts. Sift together flour, salt and baking soda. Add flour to batter, alternating with buttermilk. Pour into a well greased and floured bundt pan. Bake at 350ºF. for about 1 hour and 15 minutes (depending on oven) until done. Cool. Drizzle icing over cake, if desired.
