Spiced Applesauce Drops

1/2 cup of margarine or butter
1 cup of  sugar
1 egg
2 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of cloves
1/2 teaspoon of  baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of  salt
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 cup of thin unsweetened applesauce*
1 cup of chopped dates or raisins
1 cup of chopped nuts




*(If applesauce is sweetened, less sugar could be used). Cream margarine. Beat in sugar. Add egg; beat until light and fluffy. Sift dry ingredients together. Set aside 1/2 cup to mix with dates and nuts. Add dry ingredients alternately with applesauce to egg mixture. Stir in floured fruit and nuts. Drop from teaspoon onto greased baking sheet. Bake in 350ºF.  oven until tops spring back when touched - about 15 minutes. Makes 3 dozen.
