Preheat oven to 350ºF. Cream the sugar and shortening together in a bowl until light and fluffy. Add the molasses, salt, cinnamon, vanilla, and egg, beat thoroughly. Sift the flour, baking soda, and baking powder together into separate bowl; add to molasses mixture and mix well. Stir in oats and nuts. Drop by level tablespoons onto greased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 - 12 minutes. Makes 3 1/2 dozen |
