Pumpkin Magnets Give your refrigerator a festive Halloween look with these easy pumpkin magnets. Each child will need the following:
1/2 of a 2 inch Styrofoam ball
1/2 inch piece of magnetic tape
3 inch square of black construction paper
1 inch green pipe cleaner
glue or paste
a pencil
orange acrylic paint
Additional Supplies:
paint brushes, water, small bowls, steak knife, wire cutters and toothpicks
Advance preparations:
Paint the Styrofoam balls orange. The easiest way to do this is to stick each ball with a toothpick, paint it and then stick the toothpick in something until the paint dries.
Cut the Styrofoam balls in half with a steak knife.
Cut the green pipe cleaners into 1 inch pieces.
Cut the magnetic tape into 1/2 inch pieces
Cut the black construction paper into 3 inch squares.
Instructions:
Give the children 1/2 of a Styrofoam ball, 1" of pipe cleaner, 1 piece of magnetic tape, and a square of black construction paper. They should also have a pencil, child safe scissors and some glue or paste.
Have the children draw the face that they want to go on their pumpkin onto the black construction paper with their pencils. (You may want to give them some examples)
With their scissors, have them carefully cut out the eyes, nose and mouth of the pumpkin.
Glue the face onto their pumpkin.
For the stem have the children stick the green pipe cleaner into the top of their pumpkin.
To finish their pumpkins have them peel the back off of the magnet strip and stick it onto the back of their pumpkin.
