Island Teriyaki Kabobs

1/2 cup of soy sauce
1/4 cup of brown sugar
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 tablespoon of grated gingerroot or 1 teaspoon of dry ginger
1/2 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate
1/4 teaspoon of cracked pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 pounds of top sirloin steak, cut in strips 1/4 inch thick and about 1 inch wide
Canned water chestnuts



Mix together the first 7 ingredients. Add meat: stir to coat. Let stand for 2 hours at room temperature. Lace meat accordion style on skewers, tip each end with water chestnut. Broil over hot coals and baste with marinade. Serves 4 or 5
