Baked Apple & Cheese Dessert

5 cups of sliced apples, about 5 medium
3/4 cup of firmly packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
1/2 cup of flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of mace
1/4 cup of  butter or margarine
1 cup (4 ounces) of shredded sharp Cheddar cheese




Arrange apples in a 1 1/2 quart shallow baking dish. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup brown sugar and lemon juice.
Blend together remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon and mace. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly; mix in cheese. Spoon  mixture over apples.
Bake, uncovered at 350ºF. for 30 minutes, or until apples are tender. Serve warm with half and half. 6 servings
