Candy Apples

1 cup of Dixie Crystals granulated sugar
1/2 cup of water
1 cup of white corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon of red food coloring
6 medium apples
6 wooden skewers
 

First wash, stem apples. Then mix Dixie Crystal sugar, water, food coloring and corn syrup in a boiler over moderate heat. Cook to 250ºF. or until a hard yet flexible thread is formed when some of the syrup is dropped in cold water. Remove syrup from heat and dip apples, turning them to insure uniform coverage. Place on wire rack to cool.
