Smoked Tomato Marinara Sauce

1/2 cup of fresh basil, chopped
3 large  onions
1/8 cup of olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
4 to 5 large tomatoes
3 medium red peppers
1/2 cup of cabernet sauvignon
1 cup of wood chips

Light coals on one side of grill. When coals are white, add wood chips. When fire dies down, place onion and tomato on side opposite fire. Put lid on and smoke for 20 minutes and set aside.
Dice peppers, onions and tomatoes. Get oil hot in a saucepan. Add tomatoes, onions and peppers; sauté until liquid comes from the tomatoes. Add the wine and cook about 15 minutes. Add the basil to the sauce; stir and take off heat. Let the sauce set for 20 minutes, then serve over pasta, or anything else you would like.
