Dumplings 1

3 tablespoons of shortening
1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
3/4 teaspoon of salt
3/4 cup of milk

Cut shortening into flour, baking powder and salt with pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto hot meat or vegetables in boiling stew (do not drop directly into liquid). Cook uncovered 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 minutes longer. 10 dumplings, 105 calories per dumplings. *If using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.

Measure flour, baking powder and salt into bowl. Cut in shortening thoroughly until mixture looks like cornmeal. Stir in milk, drop dough by spoonfuls into hot meat or vegetables. Do not drop directly into liquid. Cook uncovered 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 minutes longer or until dumplings are fluffy.
