1 1/2 cups of sifted all purpose flour 2 teaspoons of baking powder 1/4 teaspoon of salt 1/4 teaspoon of celery salt 1/8 teaspoon of powdered nutmeg 1 egg 1/2 cup of milk 2 tablespoons of finely cut parsley
Mix and sift dry ingredients together. Beat egg. Combine with milk. Stir into dry ingredients. Beat well. Drop mixture by tablespoonful on gently boiling thickened stew. Cook, uncovered 15 minutes. Turn dumplings frequently with spoon, basting with the gravy in the stew. When ready to serve stew and dumplings, add sprinkling of parsley. Makes 12 dumplings.
Most people today prefer very small dumplings. Use teaspoon for dropping dough onto stew. This recipe then makes 24 small dumplings.
