Brown Betty with Hard Sauce

1/4 cup of butter
4 cups of cinnamon raisin bread cubes
1/2 cup of brown sugar
2 cups of applesauce
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of salt
Hard sauce
2 tablespoons of butter, softened
1/2 cup of confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon of grated lemon or orange rind



Melt the butter in a medium skillet, add bread cubes and sauté until lightly browned. Add brown sugar, applesauce, cinnamon, and salt, stir until hot. To make hard sauce, mix the butter, confectioners' sugar and lemon or orange rind together in a bowl, blend until smooth. Serve brown betty warm with a dollop of hard sauce on top, the sauce will melt into the warm brown betty. Serves 4 - 6
