Punch Bowl Strawberry Shortcake Dessert

1 yellow cake mix
6 ounce package of strawberry Jell-O
20 ounces of  frozen strawberries
Water
6 ounce package of  instant vanilla pudding
4 cups of milk
Cool Whip
Fresh strawberries (opt.)

Bake yellow cake according to package directions in 2 (9") round pans. When cool, split so that you have 4 layers of cake. Prepare the strawberry Jell-O with 2 cups of boiling water. Add the frozen strawberries and 3/4 cup cold water to the Jell-O; let thicken. Prepare the vanilla pudding according to package directions. In a large punch bowl, layer: starting with Jell-O, cake and pudding; repeat four times. Top with Cool Whip. Garnish with fresh strawberries, if available.
