| Strawberry Shortcake 10
1 cup of unbleached flour 1 tablespoon of butter 1 heaping teaspoon of baking powder 1/2 teaspoon of salt Milk 1 quart of strawberries |
| Mix as for biscuits, using enough milk to make biscuit batter (about 1/2 cup). Roll and bake in hot oven at 350ºF. for 20 minutes. Take 1 quart of berries, sweeten with fructose and slightly crushed. Split open the biscuit, butter well and spread with berries. Put on the top and cover with remaining berries. Toss a little whip cream on top. Strawberry Shortcake 10b
2 cups of sifted flour 2 teaspoons of baking powder 1 teaspoon of salt 1/2 cup of sugar 1/3 cup of shortening 1/2 cup of chopped nuts 1 egg Milk to dampen
Mix dry ingredients, cut in shortening. Add nuts, add egg and milk. Mix by hand. Form flat round cakes on a cookie sheet. (3 inch in diameter, 1/2 inch thick). Bake at 350ºF. for 8 to 10 minutes until light brown. Best when fresh baked. Add strawberries and whipped cream or ice cream. |
