5 1/2 cups of flour 1/2 cup of sugar 1/4 cup of shortening 1 1/2 cup of milk 2 eggs 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt 2 cakes compressed yeast
First scald milk. Add sugar and cool to lukewarm. Second dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk and let stand 5 minutes. Third add 3 cups flour, beat vigorously, then add salt and eggs. Beat well.
Fourth add melted shortening. When it is well blended, gradually add remaining flour. Fifth when stiff, turn onto floured board and knead. Return to greased bowl to rise until double in bulk. Sixth punch down and let rise again. Knead and shape. Bake 18 minutes at 400ºF.
