Green Beans & Water Chestnuts

 

Green Beans & Water Chestnuts

three 9 ounce packages of Frozen French Style green beans
1 1/2 cups of water
1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
one 5 ounce can of sliced water chestnuts
two 10 1/2 ounce cans of cream of celery soup
1/8 teaspoon of pepper
1/2 cup of milk
one 3 1/2 ounce can of French Fried Onion Rings



Combine the beans, water and salt in a saucepan. Cover. Bring quickly to a boil over high heat, separating block with fork, if necessary, to hasten thawing. when water boils, reduce heat and cook gently until thawed, but still slightly crisp, about 4 minutes. Drain. Layer beans and sliced water chestnuts in a 2 quart greased casserole. Mix the celery soup and pepper with the milk. Pour over mixture in casserole. Bake at 350ºF.  for about 25 minutes. Top with French fried onions and bake until onions are golden brown, 10 minutes or more. Makes 8 - 10 servings
