Red Cabbage Basic-Recipes.com8/29/06

1 medium head of red cabbage
4 tablespoons of butter
4 1/2 tablespoons of brown sugar
1/4 cup of vinegar
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of mixed spices  

Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and shred it fine. Cook with all other ingredients and 1 cup of water. Use 2 tablespoons of the butter. Cook the cabbage for 1 hour, stirring now and then and adding water if necessary. Add the remainder of the butter before serving.
