Sweet & Sour Red Cabbage

6 cups of sliced red cabbage
3 tablespoons of bacon grease
2 tablespoons of chopped onion
6 tablespoons of brown sugar
3 tablespoons of vinegar

Mix all of the ingredients and sauté over slow heat for 18 minutes. Serves 4 - 6   


Sweet & Sour Red Cabbage 2

2 tablespoons of margarine or butter
2 tablespoons of chopped onion
6 cups (1 medium head) of shredded red cabbage
1 small tart apple, thinly sliced
1/4 cup of firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of water
1/4 cup of vinegar

In a large saucepan, melt the margarine. Add onion, sauté until tender. Add the remaining ingredients, mix well. Cover, simmer for 45 minutes or until cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally. Makes 6 servings
