Spicy Lima Beans

6 bacon slices, cut up
1/2 cup of chopped onion
2 tablespoons of flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
a dash of pepper
1 bay leaf
1 can (16 ounces) of tomatoes, undrained
2 packages (10 ounces each) frozen lima beans, cooked and drained
1/2 cup of fine dry bread crumbs
2 tablespoons of butter or margarine, melted



Fry bacon and onion in a skillet. Stir in flour, salt, pepper, bay leaf. Gradually add tomatoes and juice, stirring until thickened,
Add lima beans. Put into a 1 1/2 quart casserole.
Combine bread crumbs and butter. Sprinkle over beans.
Bake, covered, at 350ºF. for 20 minutes, or until heated through. 6 servings
