Clove Tomatoes

4 pounds of fresh tomatoes
1 1/4 teaspoon of whole cloves
1/4 teaspoon of whole allspice
4 cups of sugar
1/2 cup of raisins, chopped
1/4 cup of lemon juice
2 teaspoons of salt

Drop the tomatoes into boiling water for 2 minutes or until skins can be easily peeled. Remove the stems and skins with the tip of a sharp knife. Dice the tomatoes and place in a large saucepan. Tie the cloves and allspice into a cheesecloth bag, add to the tomatoes, then add the remaining ingredients. Bring to a  boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours or until thick, stirring occasionally. Remove the cheesecloth bag. Ladle immediately into hot sterilized jars, filling to within 1/2 inch of top. Seal immediately. Makes 6 half pint jars.
